The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has raised concerns over actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh’s role in the upcoming war film Border 2, calling it disappointing and inappropriate given current political tensions.

The group, which represents workers in the Indian film industry, criticised the decision to include Dosanjh in a patriotic film while he is also working on a Punjabi movie, Sardaar Ji 3, which features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. Although Sardaar Ji 3 will release overseas on 27 June, it is not available on Indian streaming platforms due to the sensitive cross-border climate.

FWICE has previously advised Indian film professionals not to work with Pakistani talent, especially after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and India’s military response, Operation Sindoor. In a letter to the makers of Border 2, FWICE said the casting of Dosanjh “hurts the feelings” of the Indian entertainment community and urged producers to reconsider their decision out of respect for national sentiment.

The letter stated that continuing with Dosanjh undermines the collective position taken by the Indian film industry and may damage the patriotic image of the film, which is being directed by Anurag Singh and stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty.

FWICE has also contacted government departments, including the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, asking for action against the actor and the producers of Sardaar Ji 3. They’ve also requested the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to block the film’s clearance.

This issue highlights the growing link between entertainment and politics, as filmmakers face increasing pressure when working across national boundaries. What happens next could influence future decisions around cross-border projects in Indian cinema.
