Santhosh Narayanan alleges music label of duping him from revenues

Composer Santhosh Narayanan is one of the most successful music composers of Indian Cinema. Primarily connected to Tamil Cinema, he is composing music for Prabhas’s next Pan-India Sci-Fi film, Kalki 2898 AD. He earlier composed music for successful film, Dasara and his songs have become highly popular too. Now, he has alleged an indie music label of duping him from revenues.

He alleged that the label, Maajja did not pay him or his artists not even a cent from the revenues generated by popular indie song, “Enjoy Enjaami”, which he composed with Singer Dhee and composer – lyricist Arivu. Santhosh Narayanan released a video on the occasion of the song completing 3 years of release on 5th March.

The single debuted on social media on 7th March 2021 and video has been released on 10th March 2021. Lyricist Arivu has come up with this song lyrics and decided to contact Santhosh Narayanan to help him in composing. They have zeroed in on Singer Dhee to sing the song. Maajja, a new label established by Canadian tech entrepreneurs in collaboration with legend A.R. Rahman, released the song.

While they have different artists under their label, the company has been dormant since 2022. In 2021, they have released 26 songs starting with “Enjoy Enjaami” song. The single has been huge viral hit and it has crossed billion streams across various social media platforms. Now, this video by Santhosh Narayanan does expose their ill-handling of artists.

We have to wait and see how AR Rahman and the label owners will react to his allegations. Santhosh stated that he will be fighting on behalf of independent artists. Even several successful artists have stated that streaming platforms have not been paying the royalties and revenues that their songs generate, worldwide. Santhosh is the latest entrant into the list, we have to say.
