Legendary actor Mammootty has a screen presence and huge legacy of movies like no one else. He could span out into different languages after starting out in Malayalam language over past four decades. He is still able to surprise audiences with his choices and different films. Night Shift Studios have produced his new fantasy horror thriller, Bramayugam, in association with YNOT Studios. The movie became a hit in Malayalam upon release and now, Sithara Entertainments is distributing its Telugu version in Telugu states. Movie released in Telugu on 23rd February and let’s discuss about it in detail.

Mammootty's performance is unbelievable in Bramayugam

Plot:
Thevan(Arjun Ashokan), a court singer, gets lost in a forest and unable to cross the river, enters into a secluded mansion. The mansion’s head Kodumon Potti(Mammootty) lives alone with his cook(Siddharth Bharathan). Thevan despite his lower class, he gets a friendly welcome from Kodumon but never lets him leave from the mansion. In order to escape from the mansion, Thevan befriends the cook. But can he escape? If he can, how? If he cannot, why? Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis:
Movie has an unexplored folklore premise that gives it an ample amount of choice to create situations in a creative manner. The limiting quality of casting only three people as major leads helps the narrative in creating a mystique around the mansion and the difficulty in escaping as well. Rahul Sadasivan has done a brilliant job in creating the world and putting in the characters. The fervour that Thevan character exudes to escape from the mansion and mystery behind Mammootty’s character were realised well on the screen. But the folklore and lure set around ultimate reveal could have been worked out and executed better.

Bramayugam Movie delivers a good experience
Bramayugam Movie delivers a good experience

Mammootty’s performance is the backbone of this film. As a devil, his performance has a lasting quality and he amazes us with his ease to switch his emotions and induces fear into us with simple gestures. Arjun Ashokan is quite competitive and handled Thevan’s complex mental turmoil very well. Siddharth Bharathan is also terrific in performing aptly to the character. Production design, sound editing, sound effects and visuals add to the overall experience of the film. Had the writing been stronger towards the climax, the movie would have been a must watch classic. Still, it remains a watchable horror film for its unique experience.

Positives:
Production Design
Mammootty’s performance
Ensemble casting
Creepy setting
Solid BGM
Authentic visuals

Negatives:
Slow pace
Complex climax
