Affordable Ticket Prices Revive Theatre Business in Telangana

Ticket Prices

The Telangana government’s recent decision to halt ticket price hikes and special shows has been well-received by industry stakeholders. Telangana Exhibitors’ Association Chairman Vijender Reddy praised the move, emphasizing its benefits for audiences and the film industry.

During a press conference at the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce, Reddy stated, “Raising ticket prices confuses and inconveniences audiences, particularly middle-class families, students, and daily wage earners who often watch movies within the first few days of release. High prices deter them, which is unfortunate. We recently met with producer Dil Raju to advocate for standard ticket rates. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy have addressed this issue, and we extend our gratitude to them. Fixed and affordable ticket prices will encourage more people to visit theatres, boosting collections and revitalizing the industry.”

Andhra Pradesh Exhibitors Sector Chairman T.S. Ram Prasad echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Telangana’s policy is a positive step. Benefit shows and ticket price hikes burden audiences and hurt medium-budget films. Producers often justify higher rates due to production costs, but this reduces turnout. We urge the Andhra Pradesh government to adopt a similar approach to stabilize collections and protect theatres.”

Telangana Exhibitors’ Association Secretary Bala Govind Raj highlighted the confusion caused by exorbitant prices, saying, “When ticket prices soared to ₹1,000, audiences were shocked and reluctant to visit theatres. Fixing ticket rates, as Telangana has done, is a welcome measure. Producers should also focus on expanding releases to more theatres, which will benefit them as well.”

The unified sentiment underscores the need for affordable pricing to ensure the sustainability of theatres and accessibility for all audiences.
