Weekend box office stays dull as only one film makes an impact

The weekend has ended quietly at the box office with no major new releases making noise. The only notable release was Parada, starring young actress Anupama Parameswaran. Directed by Praveen Kandregula, the social drama hit theatres on 22 August. Despite its fresh concept, the film failed to win over audiences and received a poor response.

With Parada underperforming, the weekend remained silent across cinemas. This has become a hot topic on social media and among film circles. Other films already in theatres also struggled to make strong collections.

Rajinikanth’s Coolie showed no big growth in its earnings, while the much-hyped War 2, featuring Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan and Tollywood actor Junior NTR, could not go beyond single-digit collections.

Among smaller films, the Kannada dubbed release Sue From So managed moderate numbers, but nothing remarkable.

The only exception was the animated film Mahavatar Narasimha. Though it has been in theatres for weeks, it continues to perform strongly, standing out as the audience’s first choice. Entering its fourth weekend, the film is still pulling in crowds and is on track to join the ₹300 crore club. This success is notable because it started as a small release but has now turned into a box office giant. It is also preparing to set new records, making it the biggest highlight of the season.

Compared to this, all other films fell flat, leaving the weekend overall weak. As August nears its end, no big releases are lined up. Industry watchers now hope that September will bring new energy and revive the box office with fresh hits.
