Indian cricket team player ‘Virat Kohli’ made interesting comments while remembering his Test captaincy days. Kohli, who bid farewell to Test cricket last year, described his leadership period as the golden era in the history of Indian Tests. Speaking on the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) podcast teaser, Virat said that the camaraderie between the players in the team at that time was the main reason for the success.

Kohli, who took over the captaincy of the Test team in the absence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni during the tour of Australia in 2014, later became the most successful captain in the history of Indian Tests. Under Kohli’s captaincy, India won 40 out of 68 Tests. Individually, Kohli also became the fourth highest run-getter in Indian Test cricket with 9,230 runs and 30 centuries.

Recalling his captaincy period, Virat said, “I am proud to have been given the opportunity to play Test cricket for so long and to lead the Indian team. We were all young players at that time. We grew together as a group of players who came with the dream of playing Test cricket for the country.” Kohli said that the lack of age difference between him and players like Chateshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja in the team has made the team strong. There was no distance between seniors and juniors. We were all friends. That’s why everyone has a sense of responsibility and ownership of the team, he said.

Even if I am the captain.. we all take the team forward together. Everyone had the idea of building a strong team for the next six to seven years. Kohli explained that every player asks himself what he can do to make the team even better. During Virat’s captaincy, India achieved historic victories abroad. Especially winning the Test series in Australia in 2018-19 became a milestone in the history of Indian cricket. Kohli has created a record as the captain of Asia who has won a total of seven Test victories in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia.

Kohli has taken the Indian Test team to the next level by focusing on fitness, playing aggressively and building a strong pace bowling force. The spin duo of Ashwin-Jadeja has kept India unbeaten at home and has significantly increased the competition abroad. After the South Africa tour in 2022, Kohli resigned from the Test captaincy. After that Rohit Sharma took over as the captain and then young player Shubman Gill led the Test team.
