Vinesh Phogat storms into Semi-finals at Paris Olympics 2024

Vinesh Phogat, the Indian wrestler who has been in news for all wrong reasons, made history at Paris Olympics 2024. She needed to overcome a challenging opponent like Japanese wrestler Yui Susaki in her first bout. Yui Susaki never lost to any wrestler on International stage till date in 50 kg freestyle category.

In her 83 International matches, the 25-year-old Yui Susaki won all 82 till meeting Vinesh Phogat on 6th August. She even won gold medal at 2020 Summer Olympics without conceding even one point to her opponent. After fighting hard for her qualification, Vinesh, needed to overcome this Mt. Everest kind of a challenge to win any medal.

When everyone thought all odds are against her, Phogat did the unthinkable. She did not concede any edge to her skilled opponent to dominate her. With each one of them fighting hard for points, Vinesh won the bout by 3-2 score. Yui Susaki looked completely stunned post the result.

The 29-year-old Indian wrestler marched into Semi-Finals defeating Ukraine’s Oksana Livach by 7-5. Vinesh Phogat will play against Cuban amateur wrestler Yusneylys Guzmán in Semi-Finals. Her match will take place around 10:13 PM, on 6th August. If she wins in this bout too, she will confirm an Olympic medal to India after some unfavourable days.
