West Indies has been able to eliminate New Zealand from ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. After their defeat against Afghanistan, New Zealand needed to win against WI, to stay alive. But bowlers of WI could restrict NZ batters to win in a tight match by 13 runs. Hence, NZ got eliminated after this defeat.
Going into the details, New Zealand won the toss and elected to field first. Sherfane Rutherford scored 68 runs from 39 balls after West Indies got restricted to 76/7. West Indies managed to put up 149/9 in their 20 overs due to Rutherford back-end splash. Glenn Phillips scored 40 runs after Finn Allen scored 26 runs giving New Zealand a chance to be in the match.
Mitchell Santner tried his best in the final overs scoring 21 runs from 12 balls. But NZ got restricted to 136/9 and West Indies won by 13 runs.
