Suspense in Vinesh Phogat's case continues

Vinesh Phogat has been able to create a huge stir, Internationally, after her disqualification for being 100 gms overweight. She looked certain to win Gold medal in 50kgs Freestyle Wrestling category after she defeated undefeatable Japanse wrestler, Yui Susaki. She had to play in 50 kgs category due to her non-qualification in 53 Kgs category.

Now, she challenged her disqualification ruling with CAS – Court of Arbitrations in Sports, in Paris. CAS has extended the deadline in this case several times and now, it is said that they will issue a verdict only on 11th or 13th August. Vinesh Phogat has been asked to submit any additional documents related to the issue on 11th before 6 PM.

The wrestler has been disqualified before her Final match for Gold due to the weight issue. Vinesh Phogat, disheartened, has decided to quit from wrestling after this. Neeraj Chopra, who got silver medal in Paris Olympics 2024, after Gold in Tokyo 2020, has extended his support to Phogat in the issue.

Reetika Hooda, another young wrestler in 74 kg category had a controversial ruling in her Quarter Finals, as well. Indian contingent came to Olympics with lots of hopes to win 2-3 gold medals and increase tally to 10-15 overall. But with Vinesh Phogat’s issue and many close 4th place finishes, India is disappointed with the overall results.
