Shoaib Bashir pushes India on backfoot despite Yashasvi Jaiswal’s heroics

Shoaib Bashir doesn't allow India to run away with the test

England resumed their innings on Second Day with Joe Root and Ollie Robinson getting some handy runs. Ollie Robinson(58) fell to good bowling of Ravindra Jadeja. Immediately, Ravindra Jadeja got the wickets of Shoaib Bashir(0) and James Anderson(0), too. Joe Root remained not out on 122 by the end of the innings. England scored 353 runs from 104.5 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja(4/67), Akash Deep(3/83), Mohammed Siraj(2/78) and Ravichandran Ashwin(1/83) took wickets for India. In reply, India lost their captain Rohit Sharma(2) early to James Anderson. Shubman Gill(38) and Yashasvi Jaiswal came together to build the innings after an early setback. But they could not bat at their regular flow and had to work to score runs.

They have put on 82 runs in partnership before Shoaib Bashir struck and broke the partnership. He got Rajat Patidar(17) and Ravindra Jadeja(12) with his tight lines. Jadeja tried to hit out and started aggressively with two sixes but got out trying. Yashasvi Jaiswal who looked set for another big century got out after scoring 73 to Bashir.

Sarfaraz Khan could not play at his aggressive best and scored only 14 runs from 53 balls. He and Ravichandran Ashwin(1) fell to Tom Hartley. Dhruv Jurel(30) and Kuldeep Yadav(17) have come together to push Indian score above 200. India ended day 134 runs behind England’s 353 on 219/7 from 73 overs.

Shoaib Bashir took 4/84 while Tom Hartley took 2/47. Looks like India needs its spinners to come good in England’s second innings to save or win the match.
