Shafali Varma, the aggressive opener of India Women, became second Indian batter to score Test double century. In the only Test fixtured in ongoing South Africa Women tour of India, Indian opener achieved his feat. Another star batter, Smriti Mandhana also continued her form in this test after scoring two back to back centuries and missed out a century in ODIs.
In Chennai Test, India Women won the toss and elected to bat first. Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana started the innings aggressively. They kept hitting South African bowlers all over the ground from first over. They both have put on 292 runs for the first wicket in just 52 overs. Both of them scored huge centuries in this innings.
Smriti Mandhana scored 149 runs from just 161 balls with 27 fours and 1 six. She missed out on hitting a ball from Delmi Tucker after scoring 100 off 122 balls. Shafali Varma continued her aggressive innings and scored 205 runs in just 197 balls. After scoring 150 runs off 158 balls, she reached 200 runs off 194 balls.
Shafali Varma looked set to score even more but got run out. After her dismissal, Jemimah Rodrigues(55) managed to continue the Indian charge. India Women ended the day by scoring 525/4 in 98 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur(42), Richa Ghosh(43) stayed notout overnight for India.
