Rohit Sharma has been highly successful in IPL over the past 16 seasons. While he has been a great captain for Mumbai Indians, he couldn’t really repeat the same success with bat like he did in his early seasons. Over past 5 seasons, his batting has been underwhelming and even MI failed to qualify to playoffs in 2021, 2022. In 2023, they lost in Playoffs.
In the meantime, Rohit has become Indian Team captain in all formats and this has put his captaincy in jeopardy at Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024. While the team management wanted Hardik Pandya back in blue, they had to downgrade Rohit from captain post to accommodate Hardik’s return. Hardik proved to be successful captain for Gujarat Titans with one final and one trophy.
Well, this swap did not go down well with Rohit fans and even his fan did not seem to take it well. Many rumors have gone around with Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav allegedly being upset with MI decision. Many news reports have stated that Rohit could be looking to swap his team and join another one, especially, Chennai Super Kings.

But he joined MI camp and even hugged Hardik Pandya at the practice session. Hardik initiated the hug and Rohit reciprocated wholeheartedly. He seems to have committed himself to become the batting force that he is for MI as an opener, this season. As in middle-order there are players like Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav to fall back on. MI is starting their IPL 2024 campaign against Hardik’s previous team Gujarat Titans, GT, on 24th March at Ahmedabad.
