Ravichandran Ashwin, the legendary off-spinner who recently crossed 500 wickets landmark, had to be absent from Rajkot Test, mid-match. He had to rush back to his home as his mother collapsed suddenly with headache. He took leave immediately from Rajkot Test and joined on the final day showcasing his commitment. He continued to play rest of the matches in the series.
He even completed 100 Tests landmark in the same series during the final Test. Ashwin recounted the events and he stated that he blanked out after he spoke to his wife about the incident. Immediately, Indian captain Rohit Sharma asked him to fly to Chennai and asked Kamlesh Jain, team physio, to accompany him.
While Ashwin stated that he can go alone as Kamlesh was needed at Rajkot, still Rohit insisted on Kamlesh travelling with Ashwin along with a security person. Further, Ashwin stated that Rohit had been in regular touch with Kamlesh and asked him for regular updates about the situation.
He stated that in a selfish society people like Rohit Sharma are selfless and special. He also termed him as an “outstanding leader”. He also thanked Cheteswar Pujara for arranging a chatered flight for him to Chennai from Rajkot in those wee hours. He stated that he will always be indebited to both of them for their generosity in tough situation.
