He trails only Alastair Cook, who holds the record with 12,472 runs. Tendulkar’s remarkable tally stands at 15,921 runs, making him the all-time leading run-scorer in Test cricket. Among active players, Root is the closest to achieving this milestone, with other prominent cricketers like Steve Smith (9,685 runs), Virat Kohli (8,947 runs), and Kane Williamson (8,881 runs) significantly behind.

Despite being on the verge of breaking records, Root has emphasized that he does not focus on personal milestones.
