IPL 2024: SRH rewrites highest score record but RCB comes close

SRH again sets a new IPL record score but RCB comes close

SRH seems to be targetting 300 runs every time they bat first. If it comes off it does otherwise they will fall flat but their approach seems to be to score massively to cover for their bowling. They have once again rewritten history by scoring 287/3 bettering their 277 against MI, in this IPL 2024, only. They could be eyeing to break Nepal’s 314/3 record quite soon.

Still, SRH has let RCB come too close to the target and won by just 25 runs, in the end. Even MI came close to the target in that 277 match. Going into the details, RCB won the toss at Chinnaswamy and elected to field first. SRH got a huge start with Travis Head going berserk from first over. Abhishek Sharma(34) also contributed heavily. After him, Heinrich Klaasen joined the party.

Travis Head went on to score fastest hundred for SRH in just 39 balls. He fell soon after scoring 102 from 41 balls. Heinrich Klaasen fell after scoring 67 runs from 31 balls. Interestingly, Aiden Markram(32) and Abdul Samad(37) further pushed the score in death overs to 287/3. In total, SRH batters have hit 22 sixes in this match bettering previous best of 21 sixes by RCB against PWI.

In reply, RCB batters started going after the target from first ball. Virat Kohli scored 42 from 20 balls and laid foundation with Faf du Plessis, who scored 62 runs from 28 balls. RCB rested Mohammad Siraj and Glenn Maxwell for this game. They would have wished for Maxwell on this pitch against this attack after such a start.

Dinesh Karthik took the onus on him to chase the target down. He again came into form in a T20I CWC year. He scored 83 runs from 35 balls to take RCB close to target. RCB ended with 262/7 in 20 overs and SRH won the match by just 25 runs even after scoring 287. Pat Cummins(3/43) and Mayank Markande(2/46) impressed with wickets while no bowler went under 10 RPO in this game.
