Chennai Super Kings, CSK, have made it hard for any visiting team to beat them at their home. They have once again proved that they are a very hard team to beat at Chepauk. Shivam Dube has been able to power the team to a huge score as he hit first ball to six against spinner. Even Rachin Ravindra, Sameer Rizvi and Ruturaj Gaikwad clicked during the night.
Earlier, Shubman Gill won the toss for GT and elected to field first with some funny confusion. Bowlers of GT found it hard to contain CSK batters on a batting friendly pitch. Rachin Ravindra looked unstoppable with another 200 strike rate innings. He scored 46 from 20 balls and gave a huge start to CSK. Ruturaj scored a decent 46 from 36 balls.
But Shivam Dube showcased a different kind of hitting form and scored 51 runs off just 22 balls. His innings and timely, impressive stunning hits by Sameer Rizvi took CSK score to 206/6 in 20 overs. In the chase, GT always looked behind the 8-ball. They lost their captain Shubman Gill early to Deepak Chahar. Wriddhiman Saha(21) also failed to carry on post a decent start.
Sai Sudharsan found it hard to keep going at 150-170 strike rate like CSK top order. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni took a stunning diving catch to dismiss Vijay Shankar(12). David Miller also failed to score and made only 21. Sudharsan got out trying to score even quickly on 37 and as a result, GT could only manage 143/8 in their 20 overs.
CSK won the game by huge 63 runs and became the first team to win their first two matches in IPL 2024. PBKS and GT have lost their second matches. CSK with healthy NRR and four points from two wins are now table toppers. Shivam Dube for his destructive innings won Player of the Match.
