KKR, Kolkata Knight Riders, have reversed their fortunes with the arrival of their favorite cricketer, Gautham Gambhir, as Head Coach in IPL 2024. While they failed to defend a huge score like 261 against PBKS, they have turned to being a strong bowling unit as well in this season. But their last two league matches have been washed out due to rain while they ended as table toppers with 20 points.
After ending up on seventh spot, in previous seasons IPL 2022 and IPL 2023, this is a big turnaround by the team. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals, known as RR, have been unable to maintain their momentum like they did in the previous season, IPL 2023. In their previous 5 matches, they lost 4 and this one got washed out after toss.
Now, the team that looked certain to end as table topper for 2024 season has dropped to No.3 position. They will have to pull themselves together as a team again and play a team like RCB, in the eliminator on 22nd May 2024, at Ahmedabad. The team that wins in this eliminator will play the team that loses in the Qualifier 1, that is, KKR or SRH on 24th May 2024, in Qualifier 2.
KKR would have loved to test their new opening pair, in the absence of Phil Salt, in their last two league matches. They would be happy with first position finish as they will be getting their second chance for qualifying to IPL Finals on 26th May. They will play SRH on 21st May and would be hopping to restrict their batting juggernaut with their bowling unit.
