DC have been inconsistent in this IPL 2024. They came back strongly in the later half of their campaign, after being an easy team to target for others’ to win points like RCB in the first half. They caught a momentum yet they have been inconsistent throughout.
They have been over dependent on Jake Fraser-McGurk, Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs far too much. Still, DC aka Delhi Capitals, have ended their campaign with a win against LSG and effectively, eliminating Lucknow as well.
DC needed to win their penultimate game against RCB to give themselves positive chance but they missed their captain for that important game. Now, they wanted to end their campaign with a win to take some positives out of this performance for next year.
Due to their negative NRR, even if SRH lose all their upcoming matches and CSK also lose their final match against RCB, DC won’t have a chance to qualify.
Well, LSG have won the toss, in a crucial game for their declining campaign and chose to field first. Jake Fraser-McGurk fell for a duck to Arshad Khan in first over but Abishek Porel did all the damage with 58 from 33 in the powerplay.
Shai Hope also scored 38 from 27 and in the end, Tristan Stubbs gave a big finish pushing DC score past 200 with 57. DC scored 208/4 in their 20 overs.
In the chase, LSG kept losing wickets. KL Rahul(5), Marcus Stoinis(5), Deepak Hooda(0) and Quinton de Kock(8) had no major contribution. Nicholas Pooran gave the innings momentum with 61 runs from 27 balls.
When LSG lost him and all the hopes with him, bowler Arshad Khan showcased his batting abilities to get a 58 from 33 to take Lucknow closer to the target. LSG scored 189/9 in their 20 overs and DC won by 19 runs.
Ishant Sharma(3/34) displayed his skills at the top and death to ensure DC, a win. But it is highly unlikely for DC to qualify as SRH needs to lose by almost 200 runs in their next two matches, combined. NRR of DC is so low that they cannot expect for a miracle either.
LSG with -0.78 NRR, can’t expect themselves to win by 300 runs in their next match to even challenge others. Hence, DC have cleared route for SRH, RR, CSK and RCB, effectively.
