India Women have given a tough fight to Australia Women in a last over thriller. Australia Women have won the first ODI match by chasing down a big total. Now, India Women found it tough to chase for a lesser total against Australia. While they have given a tough fight, Australia came on top because of their experience and never give-up nature.
In a spin-friendly pitch at Wankhede, Australia have decided to bat first. Phoebe Litchfield again scored a good 63 along with Ellyse Perry scoring 50. But spinner Deepti Sharma has been able to pull Australia back and took 5 wickets in the innings. She took 5/38 by dismissing dangerous Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney(10), Tahlia McGrath(24), Annabel Sutherland(23), Georgia Wareham(22).
Australia Women have been able to put up 258/8 in 50 overs. In the chase, Smriti Mandhana(34) gave a steady start and Richa Ghosh started sucking up the pressure while playing balls on credit. She and Jemimah Rodrigues(44) seem to be taking India to winning shores. Georgia Wareham sent Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur(5) back in quick succession.
Richa Ghosh fell on 96, missing her century. This has put India Women under even more pressure. Deepti Sharma tried hard in the final overs to chase down the score. She managed to score a boundary on the last ball. India scored 255/8 in 50 overs and lost by 3 runs. Annabel Sutherland(3/47) kept her cool in the last over and hence, she has been given Player of the Match of the award.
