Dane Piedt has been sidelined by South Africa for long time giving more opportunities to other spinners. He got his chance to play against New Zealand in Hamilton Test. Immediately, he had an impact and NZ got bowled out for 211 in one day on Day 2. New Zealand have been able to run over South Africa in the first Test owing to the batting brilliance of Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson.
But in this Test, they did not find their heroes being able to kick on and make big runs. Earlier, William O’Rourke dismissed South African batters quickly and SA got all out for 242 in their first innings. He ended up with bowling figures 4/59. Ruan de Swardt got out scoring 64 runs and Shaun von Berg got out after scoring 38 runs.
New Zealand lost their opener Devon Conway early, in the first over. Later, Kane Williamson(43) and Tom Latham(40) have put on a partnership of 75 runs. Dane Piedt got into play and he dismissed both of them. Dane Paterson helped Piedt in restricting NZ and he took 3 wickets. Piedt ended with 5/89 bowling figures and New Zealand have been bowled out for 211 in three sessions.
Will Young(36) and Rachin Ravindra(29) could not kick on as well. South Africa have ended the Day 2 with 31 runs lead. NZ would love to dismiss inexperienced SA batters under 200 and hope to chase it down in the fourth innings over the next sessions by containing Piedt threat in this Test.
