Babita Phogat asks Vinesh to rethink her decision

Babita Phogat, Indian ace wrestler, asked her sister, wrestler Vinesh Phogat to rethink about her decision to retire. Earlier, Vinesh announced her retirement from professional wrestling after she got disqualified from Paris Olympics 2024. For weighing 100 gms above 50 kgs, she has been disqualified from Gold Medal match.

Disheartened she moved to Paris Court against this decision and judge is hearing the case. Vinesh Phogat in an emotional post stated that Wrestling won over her and her courage is broken. She asked for forgiveness from her mother and apologised for giving up on their dream. She also stated that she no longer wishes to participate in wrestling with a goodbye to career lasting from 2001-2024.

Babita Kumari Phogat, her cousin and another champion athlete, said that Vinesh should rethink her decision. She stated that entire India is upset with what happened to ace wrestler at the competition. She remarked that the country is more upset with Vinesh’s retirement. She appealed to her sister to fight back and aim for Gold Medal in 2028 Olympics.

She shared that even she got disqualified from Asian Games in 2012 due to 200 gms weight difference. Hence, Babita stated that her sister should reconsider. She opined that sports people should adhere to rules and sometimes when things are against us, we should fight back and not lose hope.

Well, Vinesh Phogat tried her best to decrease her weight to the required margin before Finals. She looked certain to win Gold after winning against a tough, undefeated wrestler like Yui Susaki. We understand how heartbroken she would’ve felt to take such a decision.
