Australia wins the first Test against New Zealand by big margin

Australia won against New Zealand by 172 runs

Australia has been able to overpower New Zealand at the home turf in the Wellington Test. As the stars of New Zealand team failed to perform with bat, they could not really put up a great fight against spritied Aussie bowling by Nathan Lyon and aggressive batting by Cameron Green. Australia won the match by huge 172 runs.

With 369 runs to target to chase, New Zealand never found support from any of their star batters. Tom Latham continued his lean patch while Kane Williamson could not really perform. Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell tried in the opening hour to put on a big partnership to save the match but they could not stand against Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood.

Rachin Ravindra fell after scoring 59 and Daryl Mitchell after scoring 38. Glenn Phillips could not salvage the situation against a spirited Nathan Lyon. Scott Kuggeleijn(26) and Matt Henry(14) made some runs with their flashing blades. New Zealand got all-out for 196 losing the match by 172 runs.

Nathan Lyon took 6 wickets and ended with figures 6/65. He took total 10 wickets in the match. Cameron Green with his huge 174 in the first innings turned the match into Australia’s favour. Hence, he has been awarded Player of the Match.
