Thalapathy Vijay has been thinking about joining politics full time from past decade. Because of his growing popularity and rumours that he is going to enter politics, both major parties in power have troubled his films in all possible ways. He has been floating his political party idea and his wish to use his huge fandom to do public service.
As Vijay Makkal Iyyakam, his fans have formed a group and from past decade, they have been doing service oriented programs all over Tamil Nadu. Vijay started being part of extremely politically charged films as well. He used his image and films to talk about his ideology in politics. He has decided to control political statements in films like Beast and Leo. Before that he did had some form of messiah character written for him in his movies.
After GOAT or Greatest of All Time with Venkat Prabhu, he has signed another film, Thalapathy69. Post these two films, he has decided to quit acting and completely stick to politics. He announced his decision on 2nd February, putting a pull stop to all the rumors about the name, party ideology and when they will start campaigning.

He will be taking two years to built the party cadre from base level. He won’t contest in 2024 Parliament Elections but will do in 2026 Assembly Elections. As the kinship battle in AIADMK post Amma J. Jayalalitha’s death has weakened its hold, there is a chance for Thalapathy Vijay to capture the new voters among his fans and also traditional AIADMK voters, who are not impressed by current leadership.
Thalapathy Vijay party has been named as Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, which roughly means, Party that works for victory of Tamil people. In a way, Thalapathy Vijay Koottam – People of Vijay or fans of Vijay, can also be formed out of abbreviated TVK. As Captain Vijayakanth death is certain to decrease his party DMDK political weight, TVK can become a political heavy-weight as Vijay is more crowd friendly than Kamal Haasan.
In fact, Superstar Rajinikanth had he entered politics during BABA time, like he floated, he might have had much bigger impact than Vijaykanth. Vijay has reached a point in his career that he he is considered to be above other actors in terms of box office pull and this should reflect in votes as well. Looks like Vijay will plan for the same in next two years and start campaigning from 2025 year end.
