Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today inaugurated Google’s first Safety Engineering Centre in the Asia-Pacific region, marking a significant milestone for both Telangana and India. Speaking at the launch event, CM Reddy said it was a matter of pride that Hyderabad is now home to Google’s fifth Safety Engineering Centre globally, reinforcing the city’s position as a digital and innovation hub.
“Since Google was launched, the world has changed. Our lives have become completely digital. In this digital era, privacy and safety are top concerns,” the Chief Minister said, stressing the importance of secure digital infrastructure. He noted that the centre would play a key role in advanced cybersecurity and privacy solutions and would also focus on developing skills in the region.
Highlighting Telangana’s favourable environment for investment, the CM said the centre would create employment opportunities and strengthen India’s cybersecurity capabilities. Referring to Google’s core philosophy of “Do no evil”, he remarked that his Congress-led government also believes in doing good and making long-term positive changes—even if the benefits take time to show.
Revanth Reddy stated confidently that when global companies search for the best place to invest, the answer is Telangana. “When you search on Google, Hyderabad comes up first,” he quipped, coining the phrase “Telangana Rising”, and reiterating his government’s ambitious vision to make Telangana a $1 trillion economy by 2035. As part of this vision, he announced an aim to empower 1 crore (10 million) women to become millionaires.
Google and Hyderabad: A Long-standing Partnership
The CM recalled that Google set up its first office in Hyderabad in 2007 during a previous Congress government. “Today, nearly 7,000 Googlers call Hyderabad their home,” he noted. As part of the new centre’s launch, the state has allocated 2.5 acres next to the Google office to set up stalls for self-help groups led by women.
He further mentioned the government’s efforts to uplift farmers and provide them with better income and happiness. Youth skill development and employment generation were also highlighted as priorities, and he appealed to Google to support these goals and serve as brand ambassadors for Telangana Rising.
Inclusivity and Innovation at the Forefront
The CM said the state is proud to partner with Google across various sectors like education, safety, maps, traffic, startups, and healthcare. He described Google as an innovative company and said his government aims to be equally forward-thinking. As an example of inclusive governance, he mentioned that Hyderabad has appointed transgender persons for traffic management, a first-of-its-kind initiative. GHMC is also involving the transgender community in several civic activities.
Skill Development and Public Health as Priorities
With around 1.1 lakh engineers graduating from Telangana colleges every year, the Chief Minister stressed the need for enhanced skill development. He announced the upcoming Young India Skills University under the leadership of Anand Mahindra, which will be set up through public-private partnership. Education, health, and dignity for all citizens remain key focus areas, he said.
Wrapping up his speech, CM Revanth Reddy stated, “Just like Google, my government wants to partner with women, youth, farmers, the poor, the middle class, senior citizens, and children to create a better quality of life. Let’s build high standards together. Congratulations once again to Google on this new Safety Engineering Centre in Hyderabad. We are confident you will make us proud.”
