Election Commission, EC, has announced 2024 elections schedule on 16th March. CEC Rajiv Kumar has announced eletions for 544 parliamentary constituencies. The 2024 elections will be conducted in seven phases and polling dates have been locked from 19th April till 1st June. Counting will be uniformally conducted on 4th June and elections will be concluded by 6th June.
The first phase polling will be held on 19th April, second phase on 26th April, third phase on 7th May, fourth phase on 13th May, fifth phase on 20th May, sixth phase on 25th May and seventh phase on 1st June. CEC Rajiv Kumar has announced, “We have 97 crore registered voters, over 10.5 lakh polling stations manned by 1.5 crore personnel, 55 lakh EVMs.”
Election commission has given a choice to vote from home to voters above the age of 85 years and differently abled, PwD, voters with over 40% benchmark disability. Also, CEC further stated that the candidates with criminal records should publish their records thrice in newspapers.
He also stated that EC will closely monitor social media campaigning of candidates and also will closely look into the hate speeches, maligning propaganda based ads and defaming statements from different candidates. He stated that such candidates will be immediately disqualified and any kind of corruption will be intolerable too.
