Historic Win! BJP Set to Form Govt in Bengal on May 9

After registering a historic victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the BJP has finalized the decision to form the government. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which made a splash in the Assembly elections, has officially announced that the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister will be held on May 9. To this extent, West Bengal BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya disclosed the details on Tuesday. He mentioned that internal discussions are still going on in the party about the chief ministerial candidate and the name will be announced soon. The victory ended the Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) long rule in West Bengal.

BJP won the seat of power for the first time in the history of the state. In this election BJP won 206 seats and secured two-thirds majority. BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari won the prestigious Bhawanipur seat against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This is the first time since 1972 that a party at the center has come to power in the state as well. Analysts believe that due to this, there is a possibility of major changes in the state administration and political equations. Addressing the workers at the party headquarters in Delhi after the victory celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Bengal has been freed from fear. “The decades-long culture of political violence in Bengal must end today. What we need now is not revenge, but change. There should be a discussion not about fear, but about the future,” the Prime Minister called. He appealed to all the political parties to leave political violence and focus on the development of the state.

Although there is no official announcement on BJP’s chief ministerial candidate yet, the name of Suvendu Adhikari who defeated Mamata Banerjee is being heard prominently in the CM race. There is a strong discussion in the political circles that he has a high chance of getting the post of Chief Minister.
