2024 General body elections or Lok Sabha elections have been one of the longest ever conducted in India. On 1st June, the polling has been concluded and on 4th June, ECI has announced results as well. BJP, Bharatiya Janatha Party has emerged as single largest party once again for the third time in a row. After first Prime Minister of India, Jawahar Lal Nehru, only Narendra Modi led NDA could achieve this feat.
BJP has been able to achieve 282 seats in 2014 and 303 seats in 2019, respectively, out of total 543 Lok Sabha seats. With such clear cut mandate from voters, Narendra Modi could lead government without any kind of hindrance from allies. But in 2024, that isn’t the case. BJP while still emerged single largest party, they secured only 240 seats, 63 less than their previous tally.
On the other hand, Indian National Congress, INC, have been able to strengthen their total seats from 52 to 99, this time around. Rahul Gandhi has been able to win with huge majority in Rae Bareli and Wayanad as MP of Lok Sabha. He will soon have to decide on giving up one of the seats, he won. Congress led I.N.D.I.A bloc, an alliance of numerous opposition parties of India has secured 234 seats in total.

After BJP, Telugu Desam Party, TDP, in NDA secured second highest with 16 MP seats while JD(U) secured third place with 12 seats. For NDA- National Democratic Alliance, to form government, BJP needs support of these two big regional players for achieving required simple majority magic number, 272. Janasena, powered by Pawan Kalyan has also won 2 seats in AP.
Well, UP, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu states have disappointed BJP, while UP has delivered a big and rude shock to them. They could not win any MP seats in Tamil Nadu, Punjab while they clean swept Madhya Pradesh, Delhi.
They lost only seat each in Gujarat and Odisha. Hence, the party couldn’t realize their dream to achieve 400 seats but still, Narendra Modi and BJP have secured a rocky third term, by the looks of it.
