The unexploded bombs were discovered in the Burma camp area of Lekhapani in Ledo. This region has a historical link to World War 2 activities. These bombs were found by the locals there during a routine digging work.

This area was once part of very crucial wartime operations. And even till now, the remnants of those times are found.

The authorities confirmed that the recovered bombs were
1. A general purpose bomb
2. An incendiary bomb

Both the explosives were confirmed to be unexploded ordnance (UXO) that has a chance to cause significant risk to life if they were left there unattended.

Upon getting the information about the explosives, Indian Army’s Red Shield Division quickly reached the location and got a bomb disposal team.

The officials also confirmed that the explosives were disposed without any threat or damage to property or lives in the area.

Defence Spokesperson Lt Col Mahender Rawat said, ” a set of unexploded ordnance comprising a World War II-era general-purpose bomb and an incendiary bomb was reported at Ledo’s Burma Camp area of Lekhapani. The munitions were discovered by a civilian while digging a pit, posing a serious threat to life and property,”

“The unexploded bombs were carefully secured and transported to a designated safe location away from habitation. They were subsequently neutralised through a controlled operation, eliminating all risk without any collateral damage,” he added.
