Kolkata Doctor Case: From Poverty to Gold Medal: Doctor’s Dreams End Tragically

It is known that a 31-year-old female doctor was brutally raped and killed in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last week. Protests are being raised across the country over this incident. The CBI is currently investigating the case and many suspicions are being expressed in this case. She was assaulted while on night duty and sleeping in the seminar hall. On Friday morning, she was found with no clothes on her body and bruises on her buttocks. Doctors and common people across the country are protesting to get justice for the victim.

The late doctor had high aspirations for her future, having risen from poverty through immense dedication to become a physician. She planned to complete her PG soon, pursue a career as a chest specialist, and hoped to earn a gold medal. Excited for the upcoming Durga Puja in October, she intended to make the celebration more significant this year. Her goal was to settle family debts and enhance her parents’ lives, who had supported her education while working in a tailoring shop. Her father expressed deep sorrow, stating that their dreams were shattered in a single night. Her mother added that since 2021, they had been celebrating Durga Puja at home, and this year, the doctor had hoped to make the festivities even grander.

The parents demanded that the accused should be arrested and everyone involved should be punished for their child’s peace. Relatives revealed that he passed JEE and Medical Entrance exams, completed MBBS from JNM Medical College, Kalyani and qualified for PG in two government hospitals. She called RG Kar Medical College, where the incident took place, as her “second home”. She used to sleep in the seminary hut while providing services to the patients along with studies. Finally, she was brutally raped and murdered there.
