Director Naveen Medaram clears air about Devil controversy

Young director Naveen Medaram, worked as Visual Effects Artist for several Hollywood films. He turned into a director with films like Nice 2 Meet U, London Life, Babu Baga Busy and directed web-series Sin. He is also working on another web-series 90’s – a Middle Class Biopic. He has worked for Devil movie starring Nandamuri Kalyanram, Samyuktha Menon.

He stated that he has directed and written the movie. For over 3 years, he worked tirelessly on the movie stated the director. Several media reports have stated that he is going to court against Abhishek Pictures, producer Abhishek Nama for not giving him the credit for screenplay and direction. Naveen Medaram cleared air about going to court.

In his open letter, Naveen Medaram wrote, “I have dedicated over three years of my unwavering effort to bring ‘Devil’ movie to life. From conceptualising the script to developing the screenplay, meticulously selecting costumes to fabrics, choosing locations to designing sets, every element of the film bears my personal touch, realising my artistic vision.”

He further stated that he has shot the film for over 100 days reasserted that it is his film. He wrote, “I shot the entire film for 105 days in various locations like Karaikudi, Vizag and Hyderabad (except for few days of patch work), making ‘Devil’ truly my own creation. To me its just not a project; it’s my baby and no matter whoever says what, it’s a film by Naveen Medaram.”

He cleared that air about taking a legal action. He wrote, “While I have consistently maintained my composure by keeping calm, my silence seems to be misconstrued as a mistake by a few, I want to clarify that I have not committed any wrongdoing in the making of this film. The controversy we face today is a result of taking few careless decisions driven by pure ego and greed. Contrary to recent reports, I have not taken any legal action against any individual or the film.”

He stated that he is deeply disappointed and disheartened but he will try to prove himself with his upcoming films. He wrote, “Although I am deeply disheartened by the absence of my directing credit in my own film, I retain the invaluable experience, skill and my confidence. I have always remained focused, composed, and persistent throughout my career and I am determined to come back even stronger.”

Keeping everything aside he praised Nandamuri Kalyanram and wished Devil, to be a huge blockbuster. He wrote, “Kalyanram sir kept his heart and soul working tirelessly for this film giving his 100%, I express my sincere gratitude to Kalyanram sir and everyone who supported me during this endeavor. I am confident that ‘Devil’ will be a blockbuster, I kindly urge everyone to see the film in theaters on December 29 2023. I have signed a new film and working on a very exciting script, will announce the details soon. Thank you.”

Well, these sort of controversies should have been avoided by the team under any sort of circumstances. Naveen Medaram and Abhishek Nama seems to have had some ego issues due to budget equations. Let’s see how the movie fares at box office and what turn will this controversy take further post release on 29th December, 2023.
