War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, released on Thursday and has drawn a mixed response from audiences. While the film generated significant pre-release buzz, particularly in Telugu states due to NTR’s presence, the overall reception suggests that expectations have not fully matched reality.
Jr NTR’s inclusion in Yash Raj Films’ spy universe was seen as a big career step, especially as it marks his official Bollywood entry under one of the industry’s biggest banners. Industry insiders note that the actor could hardly refuse such an opportunity. However, some viewers questioned whether his character had the desired impact in the larger scheme of the film.
Hrithik Roshan, on the other hand, is being widely praised for his style, screen presence and performance. Many in Bollywood circles feel War 2 has reminded audiences of his star power, especially after the lukewarm reception of Fighter last year. His fans have embraced his role enthusiastically, with much chatter about his sleek look and charisma.
Although promotions highlighted NTR’s involvement and Telugu fans eagerly anticipated his appearance, trade reports suggest the film’s box office numbers in the region have been modest. In fact, the simultaneous release of Coolie has pulled a significant chunk of the audience, with many preferring it over War 2. Nationally, however, the film has been performing slightly better thanks to Hrithik’s strong fan following.
Interestingly, before the release, much of the spotlight was on NTR, with many predicting he would dominate the film. Post-release, however, the narrative has shifted, with Hrithik emerging as the standout. Industry observers argue that if War 2 had avoided the clash with Coolie, the NTR–Hrithik combination might have been enjoyed by a larger crowd.
While the film’s commercial run is still unfolding, insiders reveal Hrithik is pleased with the response to his performance. For NTR, the War 2 marks a bold entry into Bollywood, even if the results are mixed.
