Bollywood star Vicky Kaushal has opened up about one of the toughest experiences of his career while filming the historical drama Chhaava. The actor revealed that a key torture scene in the film required 12 intense days of shooting, pushing him and the cast to their physical and mental limits.
Kaushal, who plays Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, said the scene was far more demanding than he anticipated. Early in the shoot, he suffered an injury that forced the production to pause for over a month to allow him to recover. When filming resumed, the cast had to endure long, exhausting days to complete the sequence. Kaushal described the experience as a true test of endurance and dedication, giving him a firsthand understanding of the hardships his character endured.
The scene involved recreating the severe torture faced by Sambhaji Maharaj, requiring the cast to push themselves physically while maintaining emotional intensity. The production team worked tirelessly to ensure authenticity, rebuilding sets and carefully choreographing each moment. Kaushal noted that the experience deepened his respect for historical figures and made him more committed to portraying them accurately.
Chhaava is shaping up to be one of Kaushal’s most challenging roles to date. Beyond physical preparation, the actor had to immerse himself in the mindset of a historical warrior, balancing the emotional weight of the story with the demands of long shooting days. His co-stars also faced intense schedules, contributing to a film that promises to be both gripping and emotionally powerful.
Kaushal reflected that the 12-day shoot was not just about performing stunts or enduring discomfort, but about embodying a moment in history with sincerity and respect. He said the experience strengthened his understanding of acting as a craft and highlighted the level of commitment required to bring historical events to life on screen.
With its combination of epic storytelling and immersive performances, Chhaava is eagerly awaited by audiences, who are keen to see how Kaushal and his team bring this dramatic story of bravery and endurance to life.
