A great loss has struck the Telugu film industry. Veteran actor Kota Srinivasa Rao passed away at the age of 83. He died early Sunday morning around 4 a.m. at his home in Filmnagar, Hyderabad.
Kota Srinivasa Rao was known for his powerful acting in over 750 films across Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam cinema. He was equally admired for his roles as a villain, a comedian, or a character actor. His performances always connected deeply with audiences.
Born on 10 July 1942 in Kankipadu, Krishna district (Andhra Pradesh), he made his film debut in 1978 with Pranam Khareedu. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he became a household name in South Indian cinema.
Apart from films, Kota also served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Vijayawada East from 1999 to 2004. After that, he stayed away from politics and focused on his acting career. His last film appearance was in Suvarna Sundari.
Some of his unforgettable films include Aha Naa Pellanta, Shiva, Yamaleela, Bommarillu, Athadu, and Race Gurram. His use of the Telangana dialect in roles helped bring regional flavour into mainstream cinema. He was often compared to legends like SV Ranga Rao and Kaikala Satyanarayana for filling the gap they left.
Recently, producer Bandla Ganesh visited him and shared a photo online, which showed Kota looking frail. It turned out to be the last public image of the actor.
The news of his passing has left fans and fellow actors in deep sorrow. Many have shared their condolences and remembered his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema.
Kota Srinivasa Rao will always be remembered as a legend who lived every role he played.
