‘The Last Bus’ accused of copying ‘Salaar’ tune

The Last Bus Salaar

A recent promotional clip of the Hollywood movie The Last Bus has sparked online controversy, with social media users accusing the film of copying the background music from Prabhas’ hit Telugu film Salaar.

The movie, directed by Paul Green Grass, stars Matthew MacConaughey, Yul Vazquez, Katie Warton, America Ferrera, and Ashley Atkinson. The Last Bus will start streaming on Apple TV from 3 October.

Soon after Apple TV shared the film’s promotional clip online, several viewers noticed that the background score sounded very similar to a tune from Salaar. Netizens highlighted the section from 1:13 in the promo, claiming it matched Salaar’s music almost exactly. Some fans argued that the scores are not identical but share striking similarities, while others insisted that the Hollywood movie had clearly copied the composition.

The debate has grown especially among Prabhas fans, with some suggesting that Salaar’s music director Ravi Basrur and the film’s production house, Hombale Films, should take action against the makers of The Last Bus and Apple TV. However, so far, neither Hombale Films, Apple TV, nor the producers of The Last Bus have issued any comment on the allegations.

Allegations of copying or plagiarism in films are not uncommon. Often, scenes, dialogues, or musical tunes from one film appear similar to those in another, which can trigger copyright discussions or legal actions. Social media tends to amplify such incidents, as viewers immediately compare the content and share opinions.

In this case, the discussion around Salaar and The Last Bus has gone viral, generating widespread debate about originality in film music. While some users point out differences between the scores, the resemblance has been enough to make the topic trend online.

It remains to be seen how the makers of The Last Bus will respond to the allegations. Meanwhile, fans continue to watch the clip and debate whether the Hollywood film has indeed borrowed the tune or if the similarities are coincidental.
