Bollywood actor Sunny Deol has expressed his excitement about portraying Hanuman in the upcoming big-budget film Ramayana. Speaking in a recent interview, the veteran star said that no matter how many times the tale of Ramayana is adapted, it always brings a new experience for audiences.
Indian cinema has often revisited the epic, from films to television serials, and even pan-India attempts like Adipurush featuring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon. However, Adipurush failed to live up to expectations due to creative missteps. Now, filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari is taking on the challenge of retelling the story on an unprecedented scale.
With a reported budget of nearly ₹4,000 crore, Ramayana is being planned as a global release across more than 45 languages. The casting itself has created major buzz: Ranbir Kapoor will take on the role of Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi will play Sita, Yash will appear as Ravana, and Ravi Dubey will feature as Lakshman. Sunny Deol steps into the powerful role of Hanuman.
Sharing his thoughts, Deol described Hanuman as a “fun-loving, energetic and deeply entertaining character” and admitted that stepping into such an iconic role is both an honour and a challenge. He explained that characters like Hanuman require complete dedication, adding that “only when you fully immerse yourself into the role can you deliver something meaningful.”
Deol also revealed that his shooting schedule for the film will begin soon. He praised the production team for striving to deliver a truly grand experience, emphasising that no compromises are being made, especially with international-level visual effects and production values.
His remarks hint at the massive scale envisioned by director Nitesh Tiwari, who appears to be planning a visually spectacular reimagining of the ancient epic. With Deol highlighting the playful yet powerful side of Hanuman, expectations are already soaring for what could become one of the biggest cinematic events in Indian film history.
