Actress Shalini Pandey, best known for her memorable debut in Arjun Reddy, is preparing for a strong comeback to Tamil cinema with Dhanush’s upcoming directorial venture Idli Kadai.
Shalini shot to fame as Preethi in Arjun Reddy (2017), a film that not only turned into a cult hit but also reshaped the careers of everyone involved. While Vijay Deverakonda rose to stardom and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga found acclaim, Shalini’s career did not sustain the same momentum. Despite bagging several projects across Telugu, Tamil and Hindi industries, her choices did not translate into the kind of breakthrough she had hoped for. Her Bollywood outings and a recent OTT project alongside Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan also failed to make a lasting impact.
Now, after nearly six years away from Tamil screens, Shalini is returning with Idli Kadai. The film is particularly significant as it is directed by Dhanush himself, who is also playing the lead role. Contrary to speculation that she would appear as the heroine, Shalini is set to portray Dhanush’s sister, a role described by insiders as emotionally rich and pivotal to the narrative. Actor Arun Vijay will reportedly play her husband, adding further depth to the family drama.
Industry circles suggest that Shalini’s character will be one of the film’s highlights, with her on-screen chemistry with Dhanush in sibling-oriented scenes expected to strike a chord with audiences. The actress herself is said to be confident that Idli Kadai will mark the revival of her career, offering her the much-needed break to re-establish her presence in South Indian cinema.
Idli Kadai is scheduled for release on 1 October 2025 and carries high expectations, not only because of Dhanush’s involvement as actor-director but also for its promise of strong emotional storytelling. For Shalini Pandey, the film represents more than just another role, it could be her chance to return to the limelight she once enjoyed.
