Rs 300 Cr scam alleged in Chitrapuri Housing Society

A major corruption scandal has rocked the Chitrapuri Housing Society, with allegations that its president, Vallabhaneni Anil Kumar, has misappropriated nearly Rs 300 crore. The accusations have triggered widespread outrage among film industry workers and union leaders, leading to a massive protest in front of the Film Development Corporation (FDC) office.

Protesters claimed that despite working in the film industry for decades, many genuine workers have yet to receive the houses promised to them. They alleged that Anil Kumar diverted land meant for workers’ housing to commercial projects, constructing large complexes instead of homes. According to the Chitrapuri Struggle Committee leaders, 2.5 acres of land within the society were earmarked for workers’ houses but were instead used to build commercial spaces and large buildings ranging from 1,200 to 4,400 sq. ft., allegedly intended for sale to outsiders.

Activists suspect collusion between the housing society president and officials from the HMDA and the Chief Minister’s Office, demanding a thorough investigation. They pointed out that Anil Kumar has 15 FIRs and 10 charge sheets filed against him, and despite serving two jail terms, he allegedly continues his illicit activities unchecked.

Court orders in multiple writ petitions (18225/2021, 7642/2024, and 9335/2025) have directed action against the current committee, yet authorities have allegedly failed to act, enabling continued malpractice. Protest leaders criticised both the previous and current governments for protecting corrupt elements instead of holding them accountable.

They urged the Chief Minister to personally intervene, take swift action against those involved, and ensure justice for the 6,000 long-standing members who have been waiting for their homes for over two decades despite having paid for them. They also demanded the withdrawal of the decision to issue 1,000 new memberships and called for the immediate dissolution of the current committee.

The protestors proposed the appointment of an ad-hoc committee and insisted that the planned twin towers should only contain single- and double-bedroom flats reserved exclusively for eligible film workers. They further demanded strict action against officials who have failed to implement court orders.

The protest was led by Chitrapuri Housing Society Struggle Committee president Kasturi Srinivas, along with CITU leaders representing junior artistes.
