Prashanth Varma faces criticism over multiple film announcements

Prashanth Varma

Director Prashanth Varma shot to fame with his pan-India hit Hanuman, which shook the box office despite its modest budget. Prior to this, he had made films like Jamba Reddy and Adbhutham, which received mixed responses. Hanuman changed his career overnight, earning him praise and attracting interest from several star actors for future projects.

Since then, Prashanth Varma has announced multiple films, including Adheer under the PVC banner. However, fans and industry insiders have expressed frustration as most of these projects have not moved beyond announcements. This has led to criticism that he tends to announce films but rarely initiates actual production.

Among his announced projects, the sequel to Hanuman, titled Jai Hanuman, has yet to see progress despite news that Rishabh Shetty would play Hanuman and posters being released. Similarly, the debut film of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s son Mokshagna, which was to be directed by Varma, has not advanced, prompting Balakrishna to reportedly consider Krish for the directorial role instead.

Prashanth Varma had also announced a film with Prabhas, with the script reportedly ready, but it has been delayed due to Prabhas’ busy schedule. Another project, Brahma Rakshas with Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, has also stalled.

Recently, Prashanth Varma announced Adheer, revealing that S.J. Surya will play the villain. The first-look poster has gone viral, but questions remain about whether this film will reach production or face the same delays as his previous announcements.

While fans remain excited for his films due to the success of Hanuman, social media platforms are flooded with speculation and criticism about whether Prashanth Varma will follow through on his ambitious slate. With the recent announcement of Jamba Reddy 2, which he is expected to direct, audiences are keen to see whether he can deliver and maintain his reputation as a hitmaker.

Prashanth Varma’s situation highlights a growing concern in the industry: announcing multiple high-profile projects generates buzz, but delays and inaction can quickly lead to disappointment among fans and collaborators alike.
