The wedding documentary of actress Nayanthara has once again come under legal scrutiny. A new petition has been filed in the Madras High Court, claiming that parts of the 2024 Netflix documentary of Nayanthara, based on her wedding with filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, include content that requires copyright permission.

The documentary first stirred controversy when its trailer was released. It was alleged to include around three minutes of footage from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which starred Nayanthara and was produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films. Following this, Wunderbar Films filed a lawsuit seeking ₹10 crore in damages. That case is still under review.

Now, another petition has been submitted by AB International, the copyright holders of the popular film Chandramukhi. The company claims that clips from Chandramukhi were also used in the documentary without authorisation. They are now demanding ₹5 crore as compensation for the alleged copyright violation.

The Madras High Court took up the matter on Monday and has directed both Dark Studios, the production house behind the documentary, and Netflix to respond within two weeks.

The documentary, which was released on Netflix in November 2024, offered fans a behind-the-scenes look at the high-profile celebrity wedding of Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan. However, it now faces mounting legal challenges over alleged unauthorised content use.

With two separate copyright-related cases now being heard, the situation has turned serious for the makers of the documentary, who may face significant financial and legal consequences if found guilty.

More updates are expected once the responses are submitted to the court.
