Tollywood producer Naga Vamsi has strongly criticised the soaring prices of snacks in multiplexes, especially highlighting the shocking cost of popcorn and soft drinks. His comments, made during a recent media interaction, have gone viral on social media and sparked widespread discussion among moviegoers and industry insiders alike.

Naga Vamsi revealed that during a recent visit to a multiplex, he was charged ₹1200 for just two tubs of popcorn and a couple of soft drinks. He admitted that even as a film producer, he found the prices excessive and unaffordable. “What can I do?” he said, expressing helplessness over the situation. He also stated that while producers and theatre owners can try to communicate with local single-screen operators, it’s nearly impossible to influence the big multiplex chains that operate nationally.

Calling for government intervention, Vamsi said he hopes the Telugu state governments will take steps to regulate food prices in cinemas. “Only the government can do something about this. We cannot expect private companies to make changes on their own,” he said.

His comments have resonated deeply with the public. Social media platforms are flooded with reactions, many agreeing that multiplex food pricing has gone out of control. Several users pointed out that if a well-known producer is saying the prices are too high, it reflects how bad the situation really is for common people.

Many also recalled Vamsi’s earlier remarks during the release of Devara, where he explained that a family trip to the cinema could easily cost ₹1500—with ₹1000 for tickets and ₹500 for snacks. Now, with popcorn and drinks alone costing ₹1200, people are demanding change.
As the conversation grows, many are urging both theatre chains and governments to ensure that cinema remains an affordable experience for all.
