The topic of nepotism in Tollywood has always been a point of discussion. While it’s often more talked about in Bollywood, the idea that actors from film families have an easier path continues to stir debate. Recently, comments by actor Manchu Manoj at a pre-release event added a fresh perspective.
Speaking at the O Bhama Ayyoo Rama event, Manchu Manoj spoke about nepotism in Tollywood and said that success in the film industry doesn’t come easily, even for star kids. Without naming himself directly, he hinted that being from a film family like his doesn’t guarantee success. He praised actor Suhas, calling him an inspiration for today’s youth.
“Suhas started from YouTube and became a hero. That’s not easy. Young actors should learn from him. Even if you come from a film background, you must still struggle. It’s not enough. Success doesn’t come just from budget or star power—content is key,” Manoj stated.
These remarks were seen as motivational by many young actors trying to make it without connections. Manoj, son of veteran actor Mohan Babu, admitted he too didn’t fully succeed as a lead actor despite his background. His recent appearance in Kalki 2898 AD as a villain got attention, but not the impact he hoped for.
He also compared Suhas to Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi, who is known for taking on diverse roles. Manoj praised Suhas for balancing hero roles with strong character performances, saying people like him—who entered the industry without support—are the real inspiration.
With O Bhama Ayyoo Rama set to release on 11 July, Suhas is aiming for a much-needed theatrical hit, as his recent films haven’t made a mark in cinemas despite strong digital demand.
