Kantara prequel, the much-awaited prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, is struggling with its promotions just weeks before release. Directed and acted by Rishab Shetty, the film is set to hit cinemas worldwide on 1 October. Despite carrying the weight of a massive brand, the makers have not launched strong promotional campaigns, which is raising concern among industry watchers.
The recently released theatrical trailer received a mixed response, failing to create the expected buzz. Fans hoped it would take excitement to the next level, but the trailer did not meet those expectations. Advance bookings in the US are also reportedly below the desired level, showing the effect of weak publicity.
Sequels and prequels usually enjoy automatic hype, and Kantara Chapter 1 began with a similar advantage. However, the team seems to have missed the chance to build on it. Without aggressive promotions, the film may struggle to match the strong openings of the original.
Adding to the challenge, Pawan Kalyan’s OG will release in Telugu states around the same time. If OG turns into a blockbuster, it could directly impact Kantara Chapter 1’s box office performance in the region.
Experts believe that the filmmakers must act quickly to turn things around. Highlighting Rukmini’s role, which stood out in the trailer, could work in their favour if used well in the promotional drive.
With just days left before release, the pressure is on the makers to revive the hype. The film’s strong content and brand value still offer hope, but without a solid promotional push, Kantara Chapter 1 may not achieve the massive success expected of it.
