Analysis::
Prabhas took a risk by accepting a rather gray and subdued character. In Kalki 2898 AD, director Nag Ashwin’s ambition overpowered all such commercial considerations for most part of the film. Still, Prabhas made his presence felt and gave a charming performance. Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan grabbed eye balls whenever they were on screen. Kamal Haasan, in a brief role, stood out among all. In cameos, SS Rajamouli, Ram Gopal Varma and Mrunal Thakur leave an impression.
Vijay Deverakonda, Dulquer Salmaan added to the grandness. Pasupathy, Rajendra Prasad, Shobana act as good catalysts in moving drama forward. Anna Ben leaves an impression but her sequence got too lengthy. The imaginative and creative world arrest us and take us to the time that makers have created in this film. We believe that really we’re with Bhairava in Kashi and besides Ashwatthama in Mahabharata Yuddham, in the film’s current timeline, too.
Kudos to the cinematography and production design team for their world class work. This is new for Indian Cinema and for the standards set by Kalki 2898 AD team,it would be hard for others to match. Nag Ashwin and his team nave been able to put Indian Cinema further on World Map with such an amazing sci-fi film with mythological integration. It is hard to gaze the impact of the film on small children just yet, but they would definitely be interested in finding out the Indian mythological stories going further.
While majority of the film stands out, at places the action sequences though engaging get lengthy, a bit. Maybe makers could trim few action portions out here and there for even crispier runtime. Still, the engaging factor and twists keep us hooked. Santhosh Narayanan’s music could have been better for leaving us with even bigger impact. Having said that, his work for climax portion stands out. On the whole, movie is must watch for the unique experience it offers Indian Cinema.
Positives:
Prabhas’s screen presence
Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan performances
Deepika Padukone’s interval scene
Climax twist
World Class Production Design & VFX
Cameos by big Stars
Negatives:
Slow at places
A bit Lengthy action sequences
Santosh Narayan’s Music could’ve been better
Kalki 2898 AD Movie Bottom-line: Mind-boggling Efforts & Experience
