Eagle Movie Rating: 2.5/5

Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja has been trying his best to come up with different action films and he has come up with Eagle now. The movie had to be postponed from Sankranti to accommodate other biggies. Now, it released on 9th February, worldwide. Let’s discuss about the film in detail.

Plot:
Nalini(Anupama Parameswaran) tumbles upon a rare kind of cotton in Delhi. Being a journalist, she tries to investigate and throw light on the cotton production in Talakona. But R&AW and Union Government warns her to not dog deep into the story and she decides to research on it further. In Talakona, there used to be a farmhouse and Sahadeva Varma(Ravi Teja) with Jai(Navdeep) used to run a cotton mill for tribes there. He never lets anyone enter into his premises.

This rises suspicion and hurts ego of some local leaders. The real threat arrives when MLA(Ajay Ghosh) and a businessman decide to occupy the house and nearby tribal villages. On the other hand, R&AW starts to investigate about him and his weapon consignments and call him Eagle. Later, we get to know that his wife, Rachana(Kavya Thapar) is a cotton textile fashion designer. What happened to her? Why he is called Eagle? Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis:
Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja gave a very subtle performance. Unlike his previous movies, he is very stoic, unapprehended and serious as his character deserves to be. The character never tries to oversell but the other characters give huge hype to one incident and that hampers the narrative. Navdeep character needed a lot more layers to it and his lines seem too repetitive. Anupama Parameswaran is good at places but her character doesn’t get much more depth than staring blank into camera. Vinay Rai, Ajay Ghosh, Srinivas Avasarala are good but don’t leave any impact.

Eagle tries to ape KGF and Vikram without really making us get into the soul of the story. Vikram had an interesting character solving clues about another interesting character. KGF had a simple storyline narrated with voice overs like a book reading. The characters have always been out in the open for us to know about them more. Here, Ravi Teja’s character is hidden to a level that we lose interest in what he did and why he did. It is so much build up with no real context in the offing. We just keep listening to single incident in different perspectives and that too in short snippets fashion.

While that incident is big and terrifying, the moments leading up to that incident needed to help us learn more about it like in Ulidavuru Kandante. We just end up waiting for that incident to happen while everyone keep hiding details but hyping about it. If the investigation was about the character and showcase more elements about him than the incident then this kind of screenplay would have worked. Technical department worked really hard to achieve those stunts and visuals. Their hardwork is visible to us and we can say that Karthik Ghattamaneni got technical stuff right but writing disappoints. Overall, the movie fails to execute its story with an engaging screenplay.

Positives:
Ravi Teja’s screen presence
Action blocks
Production Values

Negatives:
Screenplay and Dialogues
Too much hype
Over the top elevations
Uninteresting Scenes

Eagle Movie Bottom-line: Uninteresting Screenplay
