Renowned Telugu producer Allu Aravind has revealed that his son Allu Arjun’s 2011 film Badrinath caused him one of the biggest financial losses of his career. In a past interview, Aravind explained that although he initially had doubts about the film’s story, he agreed to produce it after Allu Arjun insisted.
Directed by V.V. Vinayak, Badrinath was an action-packed film with high-class visuals, large outdoor sets, and a star-studded cast including Tamannaah as the heroine. The film, however, ended up exceeding its expected budget. Aravind admitted that the final production cost was far higher than what he had anticipated, especially given the market conditions at the time.
“When the film released, it unfortunately did not perform as expected,” Aravind said. “We faced a loss of nearly ₹40 crore. It was the biggest blow I had ever faced as a producer.” He added that the experience made him cautious about investing in big-budget films for some time, though he also acknowledged that such setbacks are part of the film industry and provide lessons for future projects.
Allu Arjun’s career has seen a remarkable journey, rising from films like Arya to becoming a global star with hits like Pushpa. Over the years, he has tried a variety of roles, and Badrinath was one of his more experimental action films. Despite the heavy investment and grand production, the film failed to match audience expectations at the box office.
Aravind also explained that producers and actors often have to make tough decisions based on the story and budget of a film. While some films with doubts are rejected, others are taken forward but do not always succeed. Badrinath is an example of how even well-planned films with top talent can face unexpected losses in theatres.
Though Badrinath did not meet expectations financially, it remains part of Allu Arjun’s career journey, and the lessons learned from this experience helped Aravind handle future big-budget productions more carefully.
