Indian Student Spared Jail in UK Break-In and Pervert Case

An Indian university student has been handed a suspended prison sentence after breaking into a fellow student’s room and carrying out an indecent act during the Christmas holidays.

Udkarsh Yadav, 18, a civil engineering student at Northumbria University, used a faulty key card from the university gym to enter the woman’s locked room while she was away. Once inside, he masturbated on her bed and soft toys.

The incident was discovered when the Indian student returned and found suspicious stains on her bedding and personal belongings. Forensic testing confirmed the presence of DNA, which led police to Yadav. When confronted with the evidence, he admitted what he had done.

At Newcastle Crown Court, Yadav was sentenced to 14 months in prison, suspended for two years. This means he will not go to jail now but could be imprisoned if he commits another offence within that time. He must also complete 200 hours of unpaid work and attend a rehabilitation programme. The court also ordered him to pay £117 in compensation to the victim.

The judge described the offence as “grossly inappropriate and invasive,” but noted Yadav’s young age, early guilty plea, and lack of previous convictions when deciding on the suspended sentence.

Yadav’s future in the UK is now uncertain. He could face expulsion from the university and deportation if the Home Office decides to cancel his student visa.

The university has not commented on the case but is expected to review his enrolment status following the court’s decision.
