Telangana government declares Mucormycosis a notifiable disease

The Telangana government has declared black fungus a notifiable disease. The orders have been issued to provide information to the government wherever black fungus cases are registered in the state. The government says the rules apply to all public and private hospitals. The government has clearly mentioned that every day those who are registered in the respective hospitals and have suspected symptoms of black fungus have to provide details to the health department.

Today, the Union Health Ministry has urged all the state governments to make Mucormycosis(Black Fungus) a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897. It also ordered all government and private health facilities, medical colleges to follow guidelines for screening, diagnosis and management of mucormycosis.

Before the Union Health Ministry made this statement, Haryana had declared Black Fungus as a notifiable disease in the state and ordered all health officials from both private and government hospitals to provide the data of patients.

Today, Telangana followed by Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan government announced Black Fungus as an epidemic. The AP government added Mucormycosis treatment to Arogyasri Health Care.
