In villages, ‘Sarpanch’ means village elder. One who leads people is called that. Shreyas Iyer was nicknamed ‘Sarpanch’ by his teammates after joining the Punjab Kings team. Shreyas said that initially he did not know why he was given such a name. Shreyas explained about that tag in a recent interview. He said that it became clear when his colleagues told him the meaning of that word.

A family, a group, a village. Since then ‘Sarpanch’ has been a part of my journey. Shreyas revealed that it has become my favorite nickname.
