If Joe Root continues his current form, there is a possibility that Sachin Tendulkar’s biggest test record will be broken in the near future. That’s why cricket fans are keeping a close eye on every innings played by Joe Root. Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s most prestigious record in Test cricket now seems to be in jeopardy. Former England captain and legendary batsman Joe Root’s pace has raised a question across the cricketing world: Will he surpass former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar?
England’s legendary batsman Joe Root has reached the second position in the list of highest run scorers in Test cricket. He has scored 13,943 runs in 163 Test matches, while Sachin Tendulkar remains the top scorer with 15,921 runs in 200 Test matches. This means Root is now just 1,979 runs away from breaking Sachin’s historic record.
When Joe Root was asked about this record ahead of the upcoming Test series against New Zealand, he spoke candidly for the first time. Root, who usually avoids answering the question, praised Sachin Tendulkar wholeheartedly and said it was a big deal to be compared to him.
“His performance was amazing…”
Said Joe Root, “He made his Test debut before I was born and kept playing until I made his Test debut. His long career, consistent performances are amazing. Not just in Test cricket, he scored 49 centuries in ODIs as well.” Joe Root also admits that maintaining a consistent performance for such a long period of time is not easy.
He said he is still trying to improve his batting and add new things. Joe Root said, “I’m always trying to improve myself. I want to be able to focus on the game and not think about technical things during a match.”
Since 2020, Joe Root has been batting at a different level in Test cricket. He is consistently scoring huge scores. He surpassed the Fab Four batsmen in Test cricket like Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson.
