The BCCI Selection Committee has officially announced the Indian ODI and Test squads for the upcoming series against Afghanistan. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been playing consecutive cricket in recent times, has been given complete rest from this series as part of workload management. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar made it clear that senior fast bowler Mohammad Shami is only fit for the T20 format, so he has not been considered for the Test match.

Young opener Shubman Gill will captain the 14-member squad announced for the three-match ODI series, while Shreyas Iyer will take over as the vice-captain. Senior giants Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli continue in this team. However, it is noteworthy that the wicket keeper batsman Rishabh Pant did not get a place in this ODI team. KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan will take care of the keeping duties. Along with young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, domestic talents like Prince Yadav, Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey have been called up in the ODI team.
